Which TREO Engineering Driver Do I Have?

TREO Engineering drivers have a similar outward appearance, so it can be difficult to differentiate the drivers without being familiar with the TREO product line.

It is easiest to determine the difference between the speakers after removing them from the enclosure.

Start with determining what size the driver is.

  • Eight Inch Subwoofers
  • Ten Inch Subwoofers
  • Twelve Inch Subwoofers
  • Fifteen Inch Subwoofers
  • Eighteen Inch Subwoofers
  • Eight Inch Subwoofers

If the driver is an eight inch speaker it is a TS8.x.  If the sticker on the magnet or frame says "4 Ohm" the speaker is a TS8.4.  If the sticker on the magnet or frame says "8 Ohm" the speaker is a TS8.8.

    Ten Inch Subwoofers

If the driver is a ten inch speaker it could be a TS10.x, TSX10.xx, SS10.xx, or CSX10.xx.

If the driver has a black motor structure and only two speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TS10.x.  If the sticker on the frame says "4 Ohm" the speaker is a TS10.4.  If the sticker on the magnet says "8 Ohm" the speaker is a TS10.8.

If the driver has a black motor structure and two pair of speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TSX10.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is a TSX10.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm the speaker is a TSX10.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a single stack magnet and a bumped back plate and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is an SS10.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is an SS10.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is an SS10.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a small pole vent (less than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is a CSX10.22.  There are small numbers of CSX10.xx drivers with alternate voice-coil configurations.  Please see our speaker model designation page for more information.

    Twelve Inch Subwoofers

If the driver is a twelve inch speaker it could be a TS12.x, TSX12.xx, SS12.xx, SSX12.xx, or CSX12.xx.

If the driver has a black motor structure and only two speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TS12.x.  If the sticker on the frame says "4 Ohm" the speaker is a TS12.4.  If the sticker on the magnet says "8 Ohm" the speaker is a TS12.8.

If the driver has a black motor structure and two pair of speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TSX12.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is a TSX12.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is a TSX12.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a single stack magnet and a bumped back plate and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is an SS12.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is an SS12.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is an SS12.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a large pole vent (greater than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is an SSX12.22.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a small pole vent (less than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is a CSX12.22.  There are small numbers of CSX12.xx drivers with alternate voice-coil configurations.  Please see our speaker model designation page for more information.

    Fifteen Inch Subwoofers

If the driver is a fifteen inch speaker it could be a TS15.x, TSX15.xx, SS15.xx, SSX15.xx, or CSX15.xx.

If the driver has a black motor structure and only two speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TS15.x.  If the sticker on the frame says "4 Ohm" the speaker is a TS15.4.  If the sticker on the magnet says "8 Ohm" the speaker is a TS15.8.

If the driver has a black motor structure and two pair of speaker terminals and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is a TSX15.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is a TSX15.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is a TSX15.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a single stack magnet and a bumped back plate and a polypropylene (smooth plastic) cone it is an SS15.xx.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is an SS15.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is an SS15.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a large pole vent (greater than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is an SSX15.22.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a small pole vent (less than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is a CSX15.22.  There are small numbers of CSX15.xx drivers with alternate voice-coil configurations.  Please see our speaker model designation page for more information.

    Eighteen Inch Subwoofers

If the driver is an eighteen inch speaker it could be a SS18.xx, SSX18.xx, or CSX18.xx.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a small pole vent (less than one inch inside diameter) and a poly (smooth plastic) cone it is an SS18.xx. If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 2 Ohm" it is an SS18.22.  If the sticker on the frame says "Dual 4 Ohm" the speaker is an SS18.44.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a large pole vent (greater than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is an SSX18.22.

If the driver has a polished nickel motor structure with a small pole vent (less than one inch inside diameter) and a paper cone it is a CSX18.22.  There are small numbers of CSX18.xx drivers with alternate voice-coil configurations.  Please see our speaker model designation page for more information.
